(Internal release)
A low pressure passing the Central North Sea and the Chestnut field in the last few days exposed the FPSO Sevan Hummingbird to a storm with a severity close to a one-year storm. Significant wave heights of up to 8-8.5 meter were reported, with typical maximum wave heights of up to 15-16 meter. The average wind speed was recorded above 45 knots, gusting close to 70 knots.
The FPSO Sevan Hummingbird's motions were recorded during the period and concluded to be in accordance with or better than model tests and theoretical analysis. The FPSO Sevan Hummingbird is currently carrying out commissioning activities and normal operations continued uninterrupted during the storm.
Since 2001, the Company has carried out more than 200 test series in ocean labs, using a scale model of the Sevan unit. The results from the testing have been consistent and have been used to optimize the design.
- The performance of the FPSO Sevan Hummingbird confirms the suitability of the Sevan technology in harsh environment areas, says Jan Erik Tveteraas, CEO of Sevan Marine ASA. The results from North Sea are in accordance with the experience from the FPSO Sevan Piranema, which started operations in October 2007, off the coast of Brasil, says Tveteraas.
